Musrara (Morasha) is one of Jerusalem’s most distinctive neighborhoods — historic, architecturally elegant, and situated at a meaningful urban crossroads. Within walking distance are the commercial city center, the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Mea Shearim, and the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. The neighborhood’s location has shaped its character, where long-time residents live alongside new immigrants, students, young professionals, and religious and secular families. In a neighborhood shaped by such diversity, practical and inclusive community infrastructure is essential.

Established in 2013 and dedicated by the Jerusalem Foundation of Canada, Canada House was created in response to these realities. It was designed as a working civic anchor, a place where residents could access services, participate in programming, and encounter one another within a shared space. Over time, it has become part of Musrara’s daily rhythm, a stable and accessible address for different generations and communities.

The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews of Canada Community Services Floor primarily addresses the needs of seniors and youth in the Morasha neighborhood. Within it operate the Reitman Seniors Centre, the Gorman–Shore Learning Centre, the Freedman Teen Club and Youth Services, and the Weisfeld Computer Centre. The Italian Friendship Garden in honor of Anthony Tafuro provides an outdoor communal space, and the Silver accessibility elevator ensure both gathering and accessibility remain central to the building’s design. Together, these frameworks provide consistent educational, social, and technological support for local residents, strengthening community life in practical ways.

Canada House also serves a broader municipal function as the home of the Koschitzky Young Adult Centre, designated by the municipality as the official young adult centre of the city of Jerusalem. During his tenure, former Mayor Nir Barkat identified the wellbeing and retention of young adults as central to Jerusalem’s future. Anchoring the city’s young adults strategy at Canada House reflected an understanding that opportunity and belonging must be cultivated intentionally.

From Musrara, the Koschitzky Young Adult Centre operates as the central headquarters for programs and projects advancing the personal, social, communal, and professional goals of Jerusalem’s young adult population. Its facilities include the Kimel Information & Activity Centre and the Wynn Business Centre, alongside initiatives such as Project Springboard: Building Jewish Identity & Empowerment in Jerusalem’s Ethiopian Young Adult Community; the Yaacov Gladstone Leadership Development Centre; the Gideon-Wyler Volunteer Centre; the Personal/Professional Development Initiative; Bishvili; East Jerusalem Empowerment; Connect; and Project Young Neighbourhood. Through these programs, young Jerusalemites access career guidance, entrepreneurship support, leadership training, volunteer frameworks, and community-building opportunities that help them establish lasting foundations in the city.

Over the past decade, Canada House has grown into an important cultural and civic hub. From leisure and enrichment to personal and professional advancement, it both strengthens Musrara while contributing meaningfully and consistently to the wider life of the city. It has become an important edition to Musrara’s story, serving as an architectural and cultural landmark that keeps the neighborhood alive and thriving.
